Know what would be cool? A really long night exposure in the dark when you use a flashlight to burn in streaks of water while the shutter stays open a long time. Or using coloured gel filters on the flashlight to leave neon tracings mixed with the water.
That'd be a fun little experiment. I don't experiment like that anymore. I wanted to do that with graffiti sometime, but never got around to it.
That would be cool except that they light the fountain from underneath after dark. Plus, I need a tripod and a remote clicky thingy to do the bulb exposure.
(and why do they call them "bulb" exposures when the shutter stays open for as long as you press the button?)
I love those light patterns done with the flashlights - always cool to see things written in light using that trick.
You don't *have to* have a remote trigger to do a bulb, but I wouldn't do one without mine - the official ones have a lock, which is invaluable, you can just set it and wander off. I think the infra-red remote can be used for the purpose, if you have one of those.
http://www.merrillphoto.com/WhyBulbisBulb.htm - my dad used to have one of these bulb remote cables.
[Note for digital cameras on bulb exposures. Most digital sensors pick up standard errors over time, which are really noticeable on long bulb exposures - to cancel them out, take a shot with the lens cap on for the same exposure time and use photoshop to subtract the noise pattern generated. Cleans things up a treat. :)]
